The Weave

The Weave is the framework through which magical functions operate - a fundamental grid that is thought to represent the fabric of magic itself. Magic is hypothesized to be the physical manifestation of bends and warps in the Weave, and this model has provided a stable and reliable base for which the civilized world had based its magical theory on to explain the talent of Sorcerous and Bardic individuals, as well as allow centuries of study for learned Wizards and attuned Druids to further their varied crafts. Much debate has come forth over the specifics of holy magic, but the devout generally care not for the argument. They instead focus on deepening their faith, the hallowed fountain of their power.

Some are simply infused with the ability to interact with The Weave directly by means outside their power or understanding; others spent much of their lives learning how to manipulate this fundamental concept by force, studying and cataloguing scroll after scroll, whether for common use or their own gain. Deep study into The Weave, however, has not yielded many results beyond the level of understanding achieved by even the highest esteemed scholars, as even small modifications in one's process can completely change the outcome... which has ended in many short-lived would-be researchers. Those who pursue a more intricate mastery over The Weave of magic are either meticulous, lucky, or dead.
