The Moon Will Sing
Cecil's journey began in Oceanside, when the associate of the Syndrian Trade Company in Oceanside, Rem, enlisted the help of local adventurers to deal with a death dog that had begun terrorizing the small town. During this job, Cecil met Vex, a white beast who would eventually become Cecil's lifelong partner. Once the two dealt with the monster and after being rewarded for their efforts, Cecil and Vex decided to adventure into this new and unfamiliar world together.
Departing west from Oceanside, the first stop the adventurers made was Wyrwood, a small village populated entirely by Lepians. Despite not speaking the language of the local population, Cecil entered a musical duel with the local talent. After the competition, Cecil spent the rest of his stay teaching a young boy how to perfect his lute playing.
While traveling north from the village, Cecil and Vex discovered a lake with treasure at the bottom of it. Their spoils included an old sword, which, upon resting overnight, had mysteriously de-rusted. As the two ventured on the coast, Vex heard the sword ask him: "Why won't you use me?", prompting him to throw the sword into the ocean with no hesitation.
On their way to the next town, the pair of adventurers decided to explore a large hole in the earth that led to an underground sanctuary of some kind. Long-since abandoned and pillaged, the two searched for any sort of valuable information or treasure until they came across a demolished door, marked by 7 claw streaks across it. Investigating further, the two descended even deeper into the earth before coming across an empty room. However, Vex was able to spot an inscription written in Abyssal; reading the inscription brought Vex and Cecil even further below to a hidden antechamber, which contained only two things: a small pool of water contained in a stone structure, and a twisted black knife suspended above it in the ceiling. Cecil, not wanting to leave empty-handed, loosened the knife from its moors with a rope, thinking the knife would look stylish with the rest of his black and gray ensemble. With nothing else of interest in the antechamber, the two finished exploring and continued onward to the next settlement.
