History

Cecil Colefield was born to two unknown parents in the Lupa capital city. When he was old enough to hold an instrument, Cecil was sold by his parents to King Azelin, where he was forced to perform in the Royal Orchestra for the King. The conductor of the Royal Orchestra, an elderly fox named Clover, taught Cecil how to perform, and the two developed a strong bond. Both the fox and the coyote shared their discontent with their lot in life, and planned to escape from the kingdom together one day.

Cecil would spend his free time composing insulting songs about the King and escaping the walls of the palace at night to learn magic under the tutelage of Fraxinus, an ancient black dragon that guarded the outskirts of Lupa under coercion of King Azelin. As the years went by, Cecil grew to be a standout member of the Royal Orchestra, drawing increased scrutiny from the King.

One night, King Azelin's guards raided Cecil's living quarters and found the scores of rebellious music Cecil had penned privately. Confronting the orchestra, Clover took the blame for the manuscripts in order to protect Cecil from punishment. He was then sentenced to execution that night for the crimes of sedition and treason. Before the execution could be carried out, Clover looked at Cecil, who heard the fox's voice in his head: "Come and find me." With those words, Clover disappeared in a puff of smoke from the executioner's stand. During the ensuing chaos in the search for Clover, Cecil was able to escape the kingdom with the help of Fraxinus, leaving everything behind. The dragon and coyote parted ways after Fraxinus carried Cecil far enough away from Lupa to be safe.

For the rest of his life before the Cleaving, Cecil lived as a busker, traveling from town to town with nothing but the clothes on his back and the lute in his hands. Cecil never found much success as a musician, barely scraping by night after night; however, he always found time to flirt with the locals, which got him kicked out of more than one town. Throughout his travels, he would encounter a few interesting characters as well, including Barley, a surly deer street musician who would follow Cecil to steal his crowds, and an unnamed red panda cobbler who saved Cecil from being arrested and gifted him new clothes.

After the Cleaving, Cecil washed up on the shores of what would eventually become the small town of Oceanside. He aided in the development of the new town and became a celebrity within the community through his charm and musical talent.
