Nabatan Nabatans are a race comprised of numerous unique species with distinct characteristics that once made their home on the continent of Lycia. Rare ancient Lycian records describe them as "monstrous people", often shortened and referred to as "mons" in ancient texts. They were driven from the continent during the Lycian Uprising, a conflict with resulted in the mass exodus of the Nabatans to a gigantic continent to the north that they named Nabata. Those that were left behind were wiped out almost entirely, effectively erasing them from Lycian history. While the rest of the world forgot about them, this diverse people actively closed themselves off, preferring not to contact those outside their kind. Since arrival in Simuhay, many Nabatans have gotten along very well with various other species, though not without a small amount of culture shock here and there. Further Details Some of these species can undergo a process referred to as "evolution", often triggered by great accomplishments or dire trauma. This process changes a Nabatan's form, often resulting in new abilities, or bolstering previous strengths. Along with Lycians and Arathans, Nabatans first came into existence in Simuhay, when the four Primordials suffused the creatures of the land with their blessings. The Nabatans in particular truly embodied the physical and spiritual elements of which they were born from, allowing them to gain unique powers and twist natural laws without the use of magic. For this reason, they were known among the Solarians as the Earthblessed. The extent to which the Cleaving affected Nabatan species diversity is unknown, but at the very least, a wide variety of Nabatans have been surviving and even thriving in Simuhay. Particularly dense pockets of Nabatan presence exist in the city of Tolia, the mountainous area near Ostia and Cyruth, and the floating city of Helios. The town of Inity, located on the western edge of Kiristym, is composed entirely of Nabatan survivors. Excerpts from Kayde's Notes I remember a conversation with Garet where he was telling me about Nabatans. He told me there were something like a couple hundred different species, with several of those species having potential for something he called 'evolution'. He also told me that he initially mistook me for a Nabatan when we first met...   What intrigues me is how there seems to be an entire system of designation based around what I loosely understand as elemental affinity. Chase called Garet, Croft, and Koebi "fire types", and called himself a "water type". I wonder how many of these types there are? It would make sense that there would be others, but I wonder what kinds. Perhaps they align with the various types of elemental damage - fire is already a given, but what of cold, lightning, psychic, force, etc? I already know it extends further than that though; "water type" has no direct analogue to these elements besides being adjacent to cold. I suppose I can learn more from Chase as we travel, or from Garet once we return to Ostia. Koebi's Journal  "Of course I wasn't always an Arcanine. While I was developing the formula for black powder as a Growlithe, an accidental ignition in my lab caused an explosion that nearly took out the entire Artificer's Cube at the Cascades. My body absorbed so much energy from the explosion that it caused me to evolve, and even then, it took me months to recover. If it weren't for that, I'd be dead. I'm just glad Croft wasn't in the lab with me that day."
