# Arcanians

An unusual race of people who are fully physically composed of magic. They usually take the appearance of the species of their birth parents. An Arcanian can be anything, from Lycian to Arathan to Nabatan, and can be born to anyone regardless of their magical ability or lack thereof. Only one physical feature is consistent across the otherwise staggering visual variety of the species - the presence of distinct striped fur patterns.

The term “Arcanian” was coined in the modern day by Lady Iris, one of the few researchers looking into the matter before the Cleaving. In truth, each Arcanian is an offshoot of the Collective - the united form of the ascended Mana, sending pieces of itself down to the world below to be born anew. Referring to these reborn pieces as Mana, however, would not necessarily be accurate - they are functionally new existences, with no memory of the Collective.

Logan and I have a working theory that Arcanians were unwillingly involved in the Collapse - Logan witnessed a recording of raw magic extracted from Arcanians being used to cast an exceedingly powerful spell, and it seems likely that this spell triggered the Collapse.

(OOC) Also, if anyone wants to know more about Arcanians, both proven and theorized, you can ask me. I've got a LOT of notes written down on them. And the notes are bound to grow as things become more clear.

# Xena, on Arcanians

"That's what Logan and some others are, yeah? Wild, that people can be made of magic...and it's fucked up that Icarus would rather keep them all dead when they can be saved,"

# Scattered personal notebooks of Logan

"I feel like everytime I get a new answer on Arcanians, three more questions rise up from it. Being able to reach out and collaborate with Kayde has been just as much a lifesaver as it has been an even bigger mystery.

Whatevers going on behind the scenes up there in the Astral Plane, it's clear everybody involved is keeping secrets. Gonna take a lot of work to get to the bottom of it all."

# Excerpt from Mira's journal

The same as the Mana, yet separated by time...I was shocked to learn that they existed in the modern day! After what we were told especially, this is deeply surprising. But I guess even the stars must fall someday.
